Perceptra, a Thai health tech startup specializing in AI-driven medical imaging solutions, has announced a landmark partnership with Google to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) technology in enhancing eye care for diabetes patients in Thailand. This initiative is for 1 million AI screenings for diabetic retinopathy in resource-constrained communities over the next 10 years.
Diabetic retinopathy is a leading cause of vision loss among diabetes patients. In Thailand, where over 6 million people live with diabetes, more than one-third are at risk of losing their vision if the condition goes undetected and untreated in its early stages. Access to high-quality screening services is therefore crucial in reducing the risk of vision loss.
As the technology licensing partner in Thailand, Perceptra will facilitate the deployment of Google’s AI technology across hospitals nationwide. This effort builds on the success of over 600,000 screenings conducted globally in collaboration with renowned institutions such as Aravind Eye Hospital in India and Rajavithi Hospital in Thailand. The project is led by Dr. Paisan Ruamviboonsuk, a retina specialist, ensuring that the technology is both effective and suitable for Thailand’s healthcare system.
This collaboration marks a transformative milestone in Thailand’s healthcare landscape—bringing high-quality screening services to communities where access to specialist care is limited. The initiative demonstrates how public-private partnerships can effectively address critical healthcare challenges through innovative technology. Through Perceptra’s expertise in AI healthcare implementation and Google’s advanced technology, this partnership is set to create new standards in preventive healthcare, making quality eye care accessible to millions of Thai citizens.
